The High School League of Legends Australian and New Zealand Championship is a free national esports competition for Australia and New Zealand High Schools.
Each Australian state & territory has its own championship – with New Zealand continuing to keep it’s nationwide. These tournaments will run during terms 3 of 2018, culminating in a final for each region. The winning schools will then playoff to crown the sole winner of the High School League of Legends Australian and New Zealand Championship.
The Championship aspires to provide high schoolers with a fun, competitive, and rewarding esports experience, similar to traditional high school sports. We promote esports as a positive experience that opens up sports team building, leadership opportunities and self-improvement to a wider range of students outside the traditional seasonal field and court sports.
There’s a persistent myth that video games are bad for schoolwork. We are working towards changing that with this League by ensuring the motivating factor to be eligible is to excel in their school work and having fun with friends – this is paramount.

“For some students, HSL is the first time the student is actively pushing themselves to achieve a challenging goal. This self-motivation allows the development of important skills such as communication and teamwork.”
The success we have had has evolved around teamwork and communication. We ensure that each and every one of us talk as much as we can during the match as communication in a team is the key to success
